Paying hundreds of dollars for a piece of raw or protected cardboard may seem crazy but it will make you lots of money in the future.

Trading cards are a great way to make either some quick cash or long term money.

They have always been around spanning decades but during the beginning of the global pandemic, the game changed forever.

Entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk came out early in 2020 and made numerous videos about the trading card hobby and saying there is money to be had in the game.

Vaynerchuk single handedly made the hobby of buying, selling, and trading cards skyrocket in popularity after these videos came out.

Local Targets and Walmarts everywhere would soon be going from stocked shelves to completely empty once any sports or Pokemon boxes came in. ‘

People can either choose to resell the boxes after buying at retail price or open and try to open said boxes containing a highly sought after card and pull it themselves.

Worst case scenario, hobbyists can buy graded versions of the highly sought after cards which are protected in a “slab” or protective casing provided by a grading company.

These cards basically work like stocks but instead of virtually owning a part of the companies shares, you are banking on the success of an athlete both on and off the court or field.

The market is very much alive seeing as an autographed logoman Luka Doncic card sold for $4.6 million dollars on Feb. 28, 2021 making it the second most expensive trading card purchase ever after the 1952 Mickey Mantle card that sold for $5.2 million dollars.

You definitely do not have to fork out millions of dollars to make money in this hobby as you can invest in rookie cards of the new generation of players when they enter the league and take a chance on them.

If they end up living up to the hype, the prices of the cards or boxes that may contain said players rises.

Personally, I have made my own personal investments in a young point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

He is a promising third year player who is the main piece to the puzzle in OKC.

It is a low risk high reward seeing as his various rookie cards are low in price and he recently was injured.

Lots of people have joined the hobby which makes for more sales and trades to be made along with building connections to make even more business.

Collecting and reselling is all apart of the hobby and can be a great way to make some money.
